To UEC candidates and future UEC candidates: Are getting A's really important?

Before I start I would like to say that this is purely my observations and opinions. If you don't like seeing criticism, as I'm about to touch on some sensitive stuff, I would highly recommend you to refrain from reading this blog post and come back another time =)

____________Are getting A's really important?

This is an issue that I came across recently. Somebody commented on a post that was originally meant for congratulating students who got A's (myself included) and saying that A's are not really important, and what about those that doesn't have enough A's? Shouldn't they deserve more attention and congratulations than those who got a lot of A's? Now, I would beg to differ with this gentleman.

First of all, dear gentleman, I can see that you have some issues with people who got A's. Was it a childhood memory that comprises you getting a crappy result? Maybe. But I would like to say that dude, this is REALITY! In the real world, would you expect somebody to say: "Oh, I would like to congratulate you on failing every subject, I would hire you as a lecturer instantly! I would tell the whole world you failed every subject and well done!" ? No! They wouldn't! Wake up! In the real world people will be judgemental, and the one way to stop their judgements is to improve yourself. For those dear people who didn't do so well? Fight back! Show everyone that you are not a hopeless case! Fight for yourself, don't just sit there and let others walk all over you!

Secondly, by the way that you said it's not important, I think that that is only an excuse, a get-away ticket to laze around, be happy-go-lucky and basically just doing nothing. Like I said, the real world wouldn't allow that. Yes, you can live, but the chances will be slimmer unless you are lucky and happened to be a billionaire, you can't really coast through life easily.

Thirdly, what's wrong with congratulating students who did well? Surely they have given their best and they got what they deserved?

I don't know about the others, but let me tell you something about my life. I wasn't the brightest button to begin with, I'm not considered academically successful during my early years of education. I wasn't noticed, because I was too average, and I got beaten up mentally by some teachers in my previous school by saying:"oh, you don't have a future because you don't have a good academic achievement. You go to an independent school, so you are automatically trash, you won't excel in your studies ever because you are just plain stupid.." So many negative feedback for me during my years of primary schooling, and nobody knew that I was going through this. I didn't say a word, because in my mind I'm planning that I WILL show them that I'm not worthless and I CAN achieve good results. I'm not as weak as they think! Let them think like that now, because after I graduate from high school, I'm going with my head held high and they will regret saying all those words. I did what I could during the last year of cramming for UEC and I got what I deserved, a better result! So to this dear gentleman, after years of transforming myself from a person who has no future to someone who has a great future ahead, don't you think that this deserves some congratulations on an effort? It is not easy, transforming myself, it took years before I got to where I am today.

So I'm not agreeing with this gentleman. Anybody can do it, it's just the matter of whether you want it badly or not. I did it, and I still can't believe it. It's not acceptable to say that oh, no A's is fine, I wouldn't have to work hard. That's not good as that is just an excuse. If you fail after making an effort, hey, at least you tried your best ^^ At least you didn't give up so easily. At least you worked hard. That'll be worthy to tell your kids someday =D

I'm just trying to say that having no A's is fine, you still have choices, but the choices are more limited. If you have more A's, you'll have more choices. That's how the real world is.

To all UEC candidates or future UEC candidates, YOU CAN DO IT! You can have a normal life while cramming for the exam. I made it this far and I was considered a hopeless case. If I can achieve something, then you can too. Just focus on what you want and stop being scared. Be yourself and wish all of you the best! =)

If you have other opinions, please feel free to share them with me. =)
