Top 10 must-read books on vacation..PART 2 (My favourite picks)

Picking up where things are left yesterday =)

-------------------------------------------

6. The "Anne" series by Lucy M. Montgomery
Publishers might have refused to publish this series when Lucy handed the manuscript of  Anne Of Green Gables, but readers certainly don't think that way. Including myself, it is very well-written, and I LOVE the descriptions of Prince Edward Island! I certainly find that Lucy's style of describing the beauty of the Island is second to none, I read the book and I wanted to live there! I love Anne Shirley too, the tenacious and imaginative red-haired orphan girl who just needed some love to blossom. I like how she sees the world and appreciates the simple beauty of her life. I also like the fact that she, like all of us, has her own faults. A lot of books tend to veer towards a perfect character, flawless and does everything beautifully without a mistake. News flash, readers don't really like it. We want something that we can relate to, not just another perfect person, so Anne, with her hot temper and hilarious slip-ups, is what most of us readers love about her.

7. The "Harry Potter" series by J.K.Rowling
This has taken the writing world by storm when they were published. The world has certainly gained loads of people who has taken a fancy to reading after being influenced by this series. I, during my naive years, didn't like reading Harry Potter because - immaturity strikes - I was a huge judge of book covers, and any book that doesn't LOOK appealing will be instant dislike. After watching the movie, I got hold of the books and voila! I am hooked! I can't get enough of Harry Potter, and I've been wishing for my Hogwarts acceptance letter every Christmas! An owl swoops by and I get an instant rush, especially when owls are uncommon in Malaysia. -LOL-
**** My cousin, who is also a huge fan of Harry Potter, wrote a comical piece on his school's magazine of how he's waiting for the letter too and how he has been able to spark magic since a young age. He said that the owls must have no clue where Malaysia is and that's why we didn't get our letter. (I suggested him to send some pigeons to Hogwarts, but the pigeons didn't return. )  =D

8. Kiss Heaven Goodbye by Tasmina Perry
If you are travelling to places that involves sun, sandy beaches, the ocean, basically anything tropical, then this book can be considered as the characters in the book are also on vacation. I don't have much comment on this book, but if you are a very uptight sort of person, very conservative, then please refrain from reading this as detailed descriptions of intercourse can be spotted throughout the book.

9. House Rules by Jodi Picoult
After I've finished this book, I've gained a remarkable amount of insight into a mind of an Aspie kid. This kid with Asperger, Jacob Hunt, is obsessed with forensics. He can spout endless information about his favourite subject. The irony is that his love of forensics accidentally charged him with murder. Reading this book has also made me think about the legal system in America doesn't really take anything personal into account. It, of course, put me off the notion of being a lawyer - LOL - I really liked the part where Oliver, the lawyer, came into the story. I like how witty he is and how the romance between him and Emma Hunt, Jacob's mother, sparked. Read this book and get shaken and stirred.=)

10. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
This book is astounding beyond belief. In comparison to say, books like Jane Austen, which requires a focused mind, this book is a relief for one's brain. I've often find that when I'm tired, the classics don't make the cut as light reading, however, Little Women certainly is enjoyable for people who want to read the classics and refrain from straining their exhausted brains!

These books are what keeps me going during vacation. When you're on holiday, nothing could be more enjoyable than reading a good book and chill. Hope you guys like it!

Top 10 must-read books on vacation... PART 1 (my favourite picks)

For all of you out there who love reading, a book, or books, is a must-have, whether if you are out at a restaurant, dangling from a cliff, or in my case, during mealtimes (I know, it's unhealthy, but putting down a good book just when things start to get exciting, well, you'll understand the feeling. -LOL-). We can't get enough of books, so why should a vacation be an exception? My backpack is heavy, not from clothes, but from the books that I lug with me on vacation. (Shout out to those who has done this too =D )

***Now I'm writing this during working hours, so I'll do Part 1 now before moving on Part 2, so this explains the splitting of parts.

-------------------------------------------------------------

1. Anything by Madeline Wickham aka Sophie Kinsella.
Ok, I know this is not a book title, but really, literally anything by her is a must-read! I am a hugh Kinsella fan! She comes up with the most amazing stories! If you really want to narrow it down, I suggest you bring her Shopaholic series, as that is by far her BEST! If you're not a Kinsella fan before, you will be after you read Becky Bloomwood's extraordinary antics. As Kinsella is in the financial field, this series depicts finance in a down-to-earth way, letting us see finance through Becky's eyes. Screw the boring graphs and analytical charts, finance is so much more than talking posh and knowing your way through PowerPoint. To sum it up, the Shopaholic series should be a recommended basic guide to understanding finance and you get to know the world of a shopaholic! (Plus you gain knowledge about designer brands, bonus!)

2. Anything by John Green
OK, I know this is not a book title too =D but John Green's books are a permanent fixture in my backpack. You can choose anything, from Looking For Alaska to his most famous The Fault In Our Stars, and you wouldn't want to put them down after you start. They are as addictive as Sophie Kinsella's books. I feasted through all of his books during my vacation in Krabi, and after the first one (which was Looking For Alaska,) I couldn't stop after that. I finished with TFIOS, the best!

3. Marley and Me by John Grogan
This is finally a legitimate book title =D This is the epic lifetime story of a journalist John Grogan, his wife Jenny Grogan, and his bundle of mischief___ Marley the dog. John wrote about his lovable yet mischievous Lab, Marley. Named after Bob Marley, the deceased singer, Marley the dog kind of tarnished (in a good way) the respectable singer's name with his crazy antics and boundless energy. Marley may not be the world's best behaved dog, but he is beloved by people who have read about him. I've grown to love Labs since reading Marley and Me, and I find the stuff that Marley does a riot (including being kicked out of obedience school, which I can relate to my - now dead - English Cocker, Milo). Remember to prepare Kleenex though, read the book to find out why.

4. Diary of Anne Frank
I picked this book quite a few times to go on vacation with me. Apart from understanding the true feelings of Jews in hiding and the vile actions by the Nazis, in my heart, I thought that bringing Anne's diary would somehow make up for the injustice and death that Anne and all the other Jews have suffered. Bringing her diary might somehow be like bringing her along for a vacation, let her enjoy the sun, sky and freedom after being cooped up in the Annexe for so long. I know this is not cheerful reading but, inexplicably, I like to read it.

5. The Art of Racing In The Rain
Because of this book, I got to know Ayrton Senna and his tragic demise on the tracks. This is written from a dog's point of view, a dog who likes to race as much as his owner. Follow Enzo the dog and read his take on the world. I gained a bit of knowledge of the Formula 1 system, but the whole storyboard is pretty good, but remember to have Kleenex by your side, just in case. =)
